LTC Bridget M. Rourke,daughter of John and Katie Rourke, of Chillicothe, assumed command of the First Regiment, United States Corps of Cadets, United States Military Academy July 28 at West Point, N.Y. The First Regiment is composed of two battalions with eight companies and an average total strength of 1,055 cadets.The First Regiment leadership is responsible for developing cadets into leaders of character with emphasis on integrity, ethics, discipline and a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Through a positive command climate, the leadership ensures the assimilation of a broad basic military education, enforces high standards of physical fitness, supports intellectual development and inspires each cadet to continue their professional growth and a lifetime of service to the nation as an Army officer.
Lt. Col. Rourke is a 1982 graduate of Bishop Flaget High School, and a 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. She received a master of science degree in systems management in 1989 from the University of Southern California. Rourke is married to Richard D. Arnold, and has two children.
