Kristen Bell takes "Veronica" in a whole new direction

Kristen Bell, the blonde bombshell actress behind one of the CW's most popular shows, Veronica Mars, gave the title character a strong alternative edge in the first two seasons of the hit TV series. Now, with the third season of Veronica Mars in swing, fans have seen Bell take Veronica in a whole new direction: preppy college girl. The Associated Press grabbed an interview with the 26-year-old hottie and talked to her about the change Veronica Mars has undergone. "It's simply that she doesn't feel the need to spike her hair up and wear so much black leather and stuff that's tough. Bell continued, "A lot of kids dress to conceal themselves a little bit ... Veronica dressed really tough because she felt hurt and vulnerable and dressed to try to combat that. But now I think she's sort of accepting who she is; she's not feeling the need to be so punky." Regardless of how Veronica may have changed on the outside, the change on the inside is less apparent. "She was wise beyond her years, or jaded, however you want to call it. But actually being a young kid and wise beyond your years is slightly different from being an adult and simply being wise. As Kristen Bell explains Veronica's subtle transition into the world of maturity, there are things that Bell doesn't want to see happen to the 19-year-old freshman. "I would hope that Veronica would choose to be vulnerable a little bit more. She's so sarcastic, but she's always funny and so witty, which is always great, but I think it would be nice to see her a bit more raw this year." That sentiment was not exactly an echo of series creator Rob Thomas. At a press conference during the mid-season break, Thomas told reporters "My fear with the character is never let her get too huggable, too cuddly, too warm," before adding that he told his writing team to "write her like a porcupine." Veronica Mars airs on the CW Network at 9PM.
