Nicol the favourite for SAM award again

PETALING JAYA: World women's squash champion Nicol David has emerged as the front runner in a list of six candidates for the 2006 100PLUS-SAM Sports Award, which will be presented on July 5.

The other candidates for the award at the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia's (SAM) annual event are Sazali Samad (bodybuilding), Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong (badminton), Siti Zalina Ahmad (lawn bowls), Chai Fong Ying (wushu) and Esther Cheah (tenpin bowling).

The 23-year-old Nicol has won the award once before – in 2005.

This year’s award comes with a winner's purse of RM10,000.
