Zebras and camels and monkeys - in Alamo?

ALAMO – a teacher from Maury City didn't know what to expect when she chaperoned a group of preschoolers on a field trip to the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo. "It was just down the road, but I didn't know about it," she said. "I wasn't sure what would be there." "I've been to the Animal Kingdom at Disney World and the Memphis Zoo. I saw more exotic animals at the Tennessee Safari Park. And I enjoyed it more." The 100-acre park has more than 60 species of animals, including zebras and camels. "This is their own little Serengeti, right here in Crockett County," said Claude Conley, who runs the park. The Serengeti is a desert in West Africa. This park has been his dream for more than a decade and took four years to complete. The park officially opened to the public Memorial Day weekend. Prior to that, the park was only open for school field trips.
