A mother is pleading for answers after her 15-year-old son was found shot to death inside a gravel pit. It happened in Bunkerville Township just outside Mesquite about 80 miles north of Las Vegas. News 3's Luis Cruz was talking to the victim's mother when a fight broke out.
A mother already grieving for her dead 15-year-old son lost what composure she had left when one of the men she believes is responsible for her son's death came to her home.
Michelle Bourgeois is outraged the people she blames for her son's death are free. Her son, Teven Michael Leavitt, was found dead at a gravel pit just outside Mesquite. Metro detectives say Teven went to the gravel pit with some friends late Monday night.
The group was target practicing with a gun and somehow Teven was shot in the head. Investigators say the people that were with Teven went to the Mesquite Police Department and told them what had happened.
"They said that my brother grabbed the top of the gun and they said the reason that he got shot was because there wasn't a trigger guard," Teven's sister Kristal Shayed Leavitt said.
Metro says they are continuing their investigation. But that's little consolation for Teven's family. "He had a big heart and anybody that knew him, knew that," Michelle said. "He had no reason to die," Kristal told News 3, "he was just so young, he didn't even get to drive a car or go to school or have a career or have kids or any of that."
At this point, no one has been arrested. Metro says it's continuing its investigation.
