Kenny 'the Gambler' Rogers backs England By Nick Britten and Stephen Adams Last Updated: 2:29pm BST 11/10/2007 England's rugby players are to receive a personal message of support from the country singer Kenny Rogers after they adopted one of his songs as their unofficial World Cup anthem. Listen to The Gambler by Kenny Rogers | Send us your version The Telegraph's Top 10 sporting anthems Rugby World Cup 2007: Full coverage The Gambler has become a big hit in the England dressing room during the team's time in France, with the squad listening to it before taking to the pitch for their games. Rogers said he was delighted his song had helped the team Matt Stevens, the prop, began playing the song on his guitar in their hotel and now it has become a staple part of the team's evening sing-alongs and pre-match build-up. Martin Corry, the flanker, said the players were particularly taken by the lines: "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em; Know when to walk away and know when to run." After The Daily Telegraph highlighted the unlikely inspiration for England's march to the semi-finals, Rogers yesterday said he was delighted his song had helped the team. And he plans to record a video message of support that will be shown to the players before their match against France on Saturday. Yesterday, in a message addressed to the players, Rogers said: "The Daily Telegraph told me that before you beat the Australians in your last game you were all singing along to The Gambler. "I don't know a whole lot about rugby but it's a song that means a lot to me and I'm mighty proud that you guys found something in it to be your inspiration." Rogers' message England fans buying tickets for the game from disappointed Australians are also taking a gamble and have been warned that they may be refused entry to the Stade de France in Paris. Australians who bought semi-final tickets prior to the tournament have been keen to sell them in the wake of their 12-10 defeat to England in the quarter-finals. Hundreds have appeared on internet auction sites, while many more are expected to be touted in Paris in the next three days but the International Rugby Board said tickets had the original buyer's name on them and were non-transferable. If checks at the turnstile are carried out and the person with the ticket does not match the name on it, they will be not be allowed in.
