Woman allegedly stole lottery tickets
A Cross Lanes woman is accused of stealing $600 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets from her place of employment and cashing them in during her shift.
Police were dispatched to Speedway on Goff Mountain Road on Jan. 16 in reference to a petit larceny, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.
Upon arrival officers spoke with the district manager who said he conducted an investigation for the theft of 600 $1 scratch-off tickets stolen from the manager's office on Jan. 13, the complaint said.
The manager said he watched the store's surveillance tapes from Jan. 13 and observed an employee cashing in 30 tickets from 2 to 10 p.m., redeemed for $100, the complaint said.
The employee was identified as Lisa Marie Oliver, 18, of Big Tyler Road.
The manager then contacted West Virginia Lottery to obtain information about the serial numbers for the stolen tickets.
He received information confirming the 30 tickets redeemed at Speedway during Oliver's shift, nine redeemed at a 7-Eleven for $28 and 16 redeemed at a Shop & Go for $32, the complaint said.
During Oliver's next shift at Speedway on Jan. 16, she was questioned about the stolen lottery tickets.
Oliver began to cry and admitted she stole the tickets and gave a statement to the manager, according to the complaint.
Oliver said she stole three 200-count rolls of $1 scratch off tickets during her shift and cashed them to help pay her bills, the complaint stated.
The total value of the tickets stolen and cash redeemed was $760, the complaint said.
Oliver is charged with petit larceny.
