“Vettes” Will Be Returning to the Valley
The 3rd Annual Corvette Show, “Vettes in the Valley”, held May 26 & 27, 2007, was a huge success. There were over 300 Corvettes from 15 states that attended, had a great time and plan to return next year. The two-day show, held at the Festival Grounds in Maggie Valley attracted Corvettes from Texas, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Alabama, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, North and South Carolina. The festivities included trophies and awards, donated by O’ Reilly’s Auto Parts, for Corvettes in classes C-1 through C-6. The 1st place winners were eligible for the “Best in Show” trophy that was won by Don Daubenmeyer, from Gainesville, GA, for his gorgeous 2006 Silver Coupe. The “Peoples Choice” trophy was won, for the third year, by Michael Medford of Waynesville for his 1963 Silver Coupe. The trophy for the Corvette Club that brought the most Corvettes was won by the Longhorn Corvette Club from Austin, Texas who brought 16 Corvettes and the Corvette coming the farthest distance was won by Mike Kimball of the Longhorn Corvette Club. Mayor Roger McElroy, Maggie Valley, presented the “Mayors Trophy” to Mike Smith, of Texas, for his 2007 Ron Fellows ZO6.

This year’s “Vettes in the Valley” was dedicated to Wade Reece, the founder and President of Smoky Events, the shows producer, who died as the result of an accident June 21, 2006. Wade’s wife Beth commissioned a special trophy, “The 1st Annual Wade Reece Memorial Trophy”. The winner was selected by Wade and Beth’s grandchildren, Jessie, Tucker and Ben Reece, who presented the beautiful, crystal trophy to Charles Czerniawski from Farmingdale, New Jersey.

Events included an opening reception at the Host Hotel, Maggie Valley Inn and Conference Center, the NCCC Non-Points sanctioned judged show, Peoples Choice voting, food and Corvette materials vendors, a Poker Run, Corvette Parade, door prizes, raffle and “Silent Auction. Many of the Corvettes and owners attended the Downtown Waynesville Block Party and had a great time.
Next years’ show, the Fourth Annual “Vettes in the Valley” will be held May 24 & 25, 2008.
