In the interview for "L'Equipe", Raul explained his philosophy of modern football in very precise fashion.
"Working hard, for me - mainly collective work - is the base for everything," he said.
"At Real Madrid there have been great players. That's all good. But historically, the club can't only talk about their individuals, no matter how good they have been.
"My theory is simple: With individuals you can win matches, but you can't win titles," the Real Madrid captain explained.
"In modern football it is vital to play as a team. Real Madrid invented this forty years before the rest of the world. Individuals can only work their magic inside a compact group."
To reinforce his theory, Raul spoke about his team's eternal rivals, FC Barcelona, and their players:
"I'll give you Ronaldinho as an example," he explained.
"Watching him dribble is spectacular, I admit it, I like it a lot.
"But in a team I would rather have Eto'o. He puts his talent, and his quality to the service of the team. Ronaldinho, meanwhile, performs his show firstly for himself. This can create problems," he concluded.
