Anthony Anderson, from staff and wire reports To be someone whose name isn't all that familiar, Anthony Anderson sure seems to get around.
Anderson starred last year in all 10 episodes of the poorly received
New Orleans crime drama, "K-Ville." The 37-year-old Anderson's chubby
looks equip him to play a huge range of ages.
He's appeared in more than two dozen movies, including last year's blockbuster, "Transformers."
Now he moves into one of the steadiest jobs in TV - as Jesse L. Martin's replacement on "Law & Order."
Martin's last episode as Detective Ed Green was last week. Anderson
plays Kevin Bernard, an Internal Affairs officer lacking street
experience. He will be promoted to homicide detective and will have to
prove himself.
If you remember Anderson as a temperamental detective on an episode
of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," well, it's the same
Anderson, but he's playing a different character. He's not like Richard
Belzer, who's played the same character, Detective John Munch, in six
different TV series.
Martin spent nine years on the TV series.
Now in its 18th year, "Law & Order" has been renewed for another
season. Producer Dick Wolf wants to go at least 20 seasons to pass
"Gunsmoke" as the longest-running prime time drama. He will at least
tie the record.
After this season ends in May, "L&O" won't return until January.
Wolf said he is always nervous when there is a cast change because it "discomforts the audience."
No series has had more major cast changes.
