Big Brother's Glyn opens a new page

February 13, 2007 - A new area for young people at Haverfordwest Library has been opened by Big Brother 2006 runner-up Glyn Wise. The former lifeguard from North Wales launched a new collection of Graphic Novels, including the popular Simpsons, Spiderman, Star Wars and Superman. The new section includes a new collection of adult taster novels, a selection of adult fiction young people may enjoy. The collection contains a mixture of classics, including The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks and Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote, along with contemporary popular titles like Short History of Tractors in Ukranian by Marina Lewycka and Minority Report by Philip K Dick. “We also have a lot of careers information for young people, and general information on a wide range of issues that may be helpful,” said Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure, Tourism and Cultural Services. “We stock a good selection of study guides for GCSE and A level, including talking books of some of the texts studied in English.” The library is free to join and young people can borrow up to eight items on their young person's card. They can also become computer members and use the computers with up to an hour's free internet access a day. Glyn was also at Haverfordwest Library to promote a national campaign called ‘Welsh Libraries - something to shout about!’. While there, he was interviewed by the editorial team from The Zone, Pembrokeshire’s free newspaper for young people. He was also quizzed on life in the Big Brother house, and his subsequent fame, by young people from across the county. Other questions, in both Welsh and English, ranged from ‘Has your cooking improved?’ to ‘If you were Prime Minister what law would you pass?’ and ‘What sort of books do you like to read?’ To find out more about Pembrokeshire’s libraries, log on to www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk
