Northglenn, CO --- Research shows that obesity
rates have doubled in the last
decade and the percentage of children and
adolescents who are defined as overweight has
nearly tripled since the early 1970’s. With one of
five children in the U.S. overweight
and a 70% likelihood of obesity persisting into
adult years, physical education has been
determined to be one of the best ways to promote
fitness.
On Saturday, March 10 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00
p.m. you can get some tips to help
you get in shape as you learn about nutrition at the
2007 Northglenn Youth Commission
Fitness and Nutrition Fair to be held at Adams 12
Five Star Schools Educational Support
Center, 1500 East 128th Avenue.
Northglenn’s Youth Commission members are
taking this health issue seriously
and offering the Fitness & Nutrition Fair FREE to all
youth and their families.
Participants can visit booths and listen to speakers
or try out a new physical activity all
designed with fun and fitness in mind. It’s a day of
hands on learning; so don’t forget to
wear some comfy work out clothes and tennis
shoes. “Do something to get fit and stay
healthy--do something to benefit yourself,” said
Daniel Cowan, Northglenn youth
commission member.
The Northglenn Youth Commission, Adams 12 Five
Star Schools and a generous
grant from Partnerships for Healthy Communities
are the sponsors of this health
conscientious event.
