The initial work on the shafts at Marine began in
1889 and by 1891 the depth had been extended to
414 yards.
At the peak of it's production, in 1919, the colliery
was employing 2728 men.
In 1964 Marine was merged with the neighbouring
Waunllwyd colliery.
