Biography |
|
Richard Dean Anderson was born on January 23, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota - the eldest of four sons.
Richard first got national recognition as an actor when he joined the cast of 'General Hospital' as young resident and neurosurgeon Dr Jeff Webber, from 1976-81.
After several guest appearances and short-lived roles on various TV series in the early '80s, Richard landed the lead role in the TV series 'MacGyver', which was a huge hit for ABC. The series, about an ingenious hero who uses inventiveness rather than violence to save the day, ran for seven successful seasons from 1985-92. Then in 1997 Richard took on the role of Colonel Jack O'Neill in the sci-fi TV series 'Stargate SG-1', a spin-off from the 1994 MGM movie 'Stargate'. Richard brought his unique sense of humor to Jack O'Neill's character, playing the leader of a team of experts who explore the galaxy and defend Earth from alien villains. 'Stargate SG-1' was immensely popular and ran for ten seasons, and it also generated another successful spin-off TV series - 'Stargate Atlantis'.
Although Richard Dean Anderson cut back his involvement with the SG-1 series after the eighth season to spend more time with his family, he still made guest appearances on both SG-1 and Atlantis much to the delight of his many fans. |
