Mark Vincent (he apparently got the name Vin Diesel while he was working as a bouncer) was born July 18, 1967, in New York, NY and was raised by his astrologer and psychologist mother, and stepfather, a teacher and theater director.
Growing up in an artist's housing project in Greenwich Village with his non-identical twin brother Paul and younger sisters, a young Diesel led a life of uncertainty, not knowing his biological father. However, despite his low-class upbringing, it was obvious that he wanted to be a performer from the age of three, after his mother had to stop him from trying to step into the ring at the circus -- he wanted his performance to start.
A chance encounter that led to Diesel's acting career occurred when he was seven years of age. Vin and his friends had broken into a local theater, and rather than getting caught and reprimanded for trespassing, Diesel and his buds were handed scripts and were offered $20 dollars per week, on the condition that they show up after school every day. This served as Vin's first "real" paying job.Known for his trademark voice, (almost as recognizable as James Earl Jones'), his ability to play a multitude of races (he apparently has traces of Irish, Italian, German, Dominican, Mexican, and a lot of other ethnicities), and his intimidating, overbearing frame, film critic Roger Ebert has dubbed Vin Diesel the action star to watch out for in the next few years.


Opening on 3390 screens, the latest Vin Diesel offering, Babylon AD - think a XXX remix of Children of Men - took an estimated $9.7 million over three days, potentially ending up with $12 million to come in second for the 4-day marathon.� Not good, Vin, even by Labor Day’s exacting standards.� Much has been made of the studio-hacked version that escaped to theaters, and while it is undoubtedly flawed, particularly the last incoherent third, what’s left is interesting enough to have done better.� Certainly not� enough to dethrone Tropic Thunder which rustled up $11.5 million for three days, $14 million for four to maintain its position as the most popular movie in America .


�Vin Diesel’s upcoming sci-fi movie Babylon A.D. I know, I know, it’s Vin Diesel, and you probably don’t care, but the poster looks kinda bad ass (but not completely bad ass).
The film follows Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop (Diesel) who takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman (Mélanie Thierry)  from Russia to China. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah. Based on the French novel by Maurice G. Dantec.

He is very smart.

Vin Diesel starred in The Fast & The Furious, Pitch Black and XXX. He has also had prominent roles in Boiler Room and Saving Private Ryan, along with being the lead voice-over in the Warner Bros. animated movie The Iron Giant. He is one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars, and one of the best paid.
Vin Diesel's list of credits is still relatively short, but that is only due to the fact that he got his big break in acting well into his thirties. But the very nature of his movies, and the wide young audience they attract, has caused him to have a huge following internationally. He is in fact more famous than his work justifies.
At least movie studios have caught on to that little piece of information. He got $10 million to star in XXX, a sort of spy movie, after The Fast & The Furious garnered $145 million in US domestic sales (at a modest $38 million production budget).
