Britney  Spears was born on December 2, 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana. She always knew she wanted to pursue a musical career, so she took her talents to her local church, where she sang with the choir. She even sang on national television as a Star Search contestant.

At the age of 8, Britney auditioned for the popular children's variety show The New Mickey Mouse Club, but she was refused because of her young age. Luckily for Britney Spears, one of the show's producers saw the young singer's talent and helped her find an agent in New York City.

She said: "In my situation, I try to make it as normal as possible for me - it could be a lot worse. There are people out there who have it a lot worse than I do. I used to be a cool chick but I feel like the paparazzi has taken that away from me, like, the way I used to live my life. I used to be a cool chick but I'm not anymore."

Britney also spoke about her relationship with 'SexyBack' singer Justin Timberlake, who she split from in 2002 after the pair dated for several years.

In the promo for the upcoming documentary, Britney said: "With Justin, he was part of the magnitude of what I had become. So when he was gone I was like, 'What am I supposed to do with myself?' He started to do an album for himself and he started to do things for himself, and I just never saw him anymore. When it ended I felt so alone. I didn't really want to think about the reality of it. I never faced it - I just ran."

Meanwhile, it has been reported Britney will be performing at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (23.11.08).

US TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who is presenting the ceremony, says he has been told there is a surprise in store, but has not been given any further details.

He said: "They have these surprises that 75 people on the crew know about, but they won't tell the host. Apparently, there is some big surprise. I sent the producer an email yesterday and he was like, I can't tell you."

The pop babe claims she can't leave her Malibu home without being hounded by paparazzi, and is terrified it will put her life in danger.

The sexy star believes she is in the same situation as the late British princess, who was killed following a car chase in Paris in 1997.

Britney, who gave birth to her fist child, Sean Preston, four months ago, stormed to America's People magazine: "I don't really go out without him (Sean) and it's kind of sad because I can't walk down the street with the stroller.

"This is how Princess Diana got killed."

The pop babe says she's begged police to help her escape the attentions of eager shutterbugs.

She revealed: "I've pulled over and asked the cops, 'Could you please help me?' And they say, 'Sorry ma'am, I can't help you.' This is how it is."

The singer sparked outrage last week when she was photographed steering her SUV with four-month-old Sean Preston perched on her knee.

She claimed she drove off with the tot out of his baby seat because she was alarmed by nearby snappers, but later conceded her actions were a "mistake".

A source said: "To be described as nothing more than a miming porn star was galling and led to her questioning her appearance.

"She's now thinking of becoming more of a rock chick. The thing is, she looks great as she is."

One insider has claimed Britney is taking diet pills in a bid to speed up her weight loss in preparation for her forthcoming world tour.

Another source said: "The pills are like diuretics. She has to go to the bathroom constantly. Everyone knows she still throws up when she's eaten too much."

Britney Spears has reportedly demanded three dressing rooms and 45 minders ahead of her performance on 'The X Factor' tomorrow night (29.11.08).

The 26-year-old singer - who wowed fans with an exclusive rendition of her hit record 'Womanizer' at Germany's Bambi Awards last night (27.11.08) - is said to have made more outrageous requests than infamous diva Mariah Carey, who appeared on the British TV talent show two weeks ago.

A source said: "It's completely silly. No one has seen anything like it, not even when Mariah Carey was on the show. Britney has ordered the use of three dressing rooms, Mariah only wanted two.

"She has also requested the security be tripled, from 15 minders to 45. But it was a coup to get Britney at all, so they are pandering to her every whim."

Britney has also banned the show's finalists, as well as judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh, from requesting autographs or pictures with her.

The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "To say it is over the top is an understatement. That not even the judges can ask for pictures with her is beyond belief. The studio has been in lockdown since yesterday in preparation for Britney's arrival.

"Simon finds it all hysterical!"

Britney Spears says marrying Kevin Federline was a mistake.

The 26-year-old singer - who has two sons, three-year-old Sean Preston and two-year-old Jayden James, with Kevin - wishes she had never walked down the aisle with the former backing dancer.

In a promo for her new TV documentary 'Britney: For the Record', Britney said: "I think I married for the wrong reasons. Instead of following my heart and doing what made me really happy, I just did it for the sake of the idea of everything."

In the advert, which is accompanied by Britney's new track 'Womanizer', Britney also revealed her split from Kevin has influenced her music.

She added: "Your music is a reflection of what you're going through. It's such a part of me, the record, because of what I've gone through."

Britney and Kevin married in September 2004 and split in summer 2006. Their divorce was finalised in July 2007.

Meanwhile, Britney sparked rumours she has a new boyfriend after she was photographed leaving a Los Angeles restaurant with a mystery man on Monday night (17.11.08).

The dark-haired man has now been identified as Salvatore D'Angelo, the manager of Britney's favourite hairdressers, Kim Vo's B2V salon.

Britney Spears treated her children to a shopping spree yesterday (03.12.08).

The 'Womanizer' singer - who celebrated her 27th birthday with a circus-themed party on Tuesday (02.12.08) - took Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, to New York's famous Schwarz toy store, where she splashed out hundreds of dollars on them.

An onlooker said: "Each of the boys had an employee to walk around with, and they each had a huge metal trolley cart to fill up. They picked out hundreds of dollars worth of Mack Trucks, cement mixers and RC cars."

Britney's mother Lynn and father Jamie joined her for the trip, with the singer happily walking around the store with her sons as they picked out their favourite toys.

The source added to America's OK magazine: "Sean really fell in love with a car transporter, which he had taken out of the box so he could hold it everywhere he went. Jayden was most excited about a little blue plane, and cried when someone tried to take it away.

"Jamie picked out a stuffed Incredible Hulk toy for Sean and was saying to him, 'Who's this, Sean? Who's this?'

Britney Spears' son Jayden James' recent hospitalisation was down to an allergic reaction to fried chicken, doctors believe.

The two-year-old tot - who was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Sunday (09.11.08) after suffering a suspected seizure and going into a "vague and unresponsive state" - had eaten the food from a nearby takeaway establishment an hour before falling ill.

While he was at the medical centre, doctors performed a variety of tests on Jayden in a bid to discover what had caused the terrifying reaction.

A statement posted on Britney's website yesterday (11.11.08) read: "Doctors concluded he had a reaction to something he ingested."

Jayden has now been discharged from hospital after being treated.

Meanwhile, Mark Vincent Kaplan - the attorney for Kevin Federline, Britney's ex-husband and primary carer of Jayden and the couple's other son, three-year-old Sean Preston - revealed Kevin was impressed with the way 26-year-old Britney had dealt with the situation.

Kaplan said: "I think that whatever it is, a food allergy or some other case, we don't know yet. W.'re pleased that someone was aware enough to see that he was having some sort of reaction and do what was necessary to make sure there were no chances taken and got Jayden to the appropriate facility and got the appropriate evaluation to be timely.

"I anticipate that Kevin and Britney as concerned parents will exchange information and satisfy themselves that what happened was a freak occurrence and do what they have to do to make sure that it doesn't happen again."

Britney Spears was "in awe" of Simon Cowell when she met him on 'The X Factor'.

Simon - who was photographed with Britney and his fellow judges Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole after performing her hit track 'Womanizer' on the British TV talent show on Saturday (29.11.08) - claims the 27-year-old star was stunned when she met him.

He said: "This may be a bit egotistical, but I think she was in awe of me. She was just staring at me. I said, 'Touch me, I'm human', and I think that broke the ice."

Despite Britney being criticised for miming on the programme, Simon insists the audience were wowed by her performance.

He added to US radio host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM show: "There was more buzz, more excitement, for this girl than anyone else. It was as if the president was on the show. I love it. I think if you are going to be a star, be a star.

"She was terrific. Very professional. This girl has got huge star quality. You have got to hand it to her. She's a great performer. I would literally have her on my show every week for the next 10 years."
