Britney Spears Biography
B ritney Spears Britney Spears wa s born on December 2, 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana. She always knew she wanted to pursue a musical career, so she took her talents to her local church, where she sang with the choir. She even sang on national television as a Star Search contestant. At the age of 8, Britney auditioned for the popular children's variety show The New Mickey Mouse Club , but she was refused because of her young age. Luckily for Britney Spears, one of the show's producers saw the young singer's talent and helped her find an agent in New York City.Britney Spears spent the next three summers in New York, where she studied at the famous Off Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School. She also appeared in commercials and off-Broadway shows, one of which showcased Britney as an innocent 10-year-old with a "bad girl" edge.
At the age of 11, three years after her first Mickey Mouse Club rejection, Britney Spears finally landed a spot as a "Mouseketeer." Joining a cast of talented teens, Britney showed off her acting, dancing and singing talents on the show that also spawned the careers of fellow celebrities Keri Russell , Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. After two years of living in Orlando while doing the show, Britney Spears moved back home to Kentwood and returned to high school. Her one year as a 14-year-old high-school student would be the last bit of normalcy in her life. With dreams of pursuing a career as a singer and a desire to leave her small hometown, Britney set off to New York City. Britney then signed with Jive Records after impressing an executive with her demo tape.
Her debut album ...Baby One More Time (1999) held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts, was certified RIAA 14 times platinum (it has gone on to sell more than 20 million copies) and won Britney awards such as the 1999 MTV Europe Awards for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist and Best Breakthrough Artist. With the hype nowhere near being over, she returned to the music scene in 2000 with her follow-up album, entitled Oops!... I Did It Again . With a hit video accompanying the hit title track (in which Spears definitely did it again, this time in a red latex cat suit), a second worldwide tour in support of her album and millions of fans, Britney Spears accomplished what few artists ever accomplish -- and she was only 18 years old. 2001 was a banner year for the pop star, as she cohosted the American Music Awards with LL Cool J , sang with Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Nelly , and Mary J. Blige at the Super Bowl, appeared on a spoken-word CD of the Pope's prayers (irony?), and signed a multimillion-dollar endorsement deal with Pepsi. Her third, self-titled album was released, which spawned hits like "Overprotected," "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" and "Slave 4 U." A year later she starred in the less-than-talked-about movie Crossroads . That same year, she also appeared as host and performer on Saturday Night Live and had a cameo in Austin Powers in Goldmember.
After her public breakup with Justin Timberlake in 2002 the once-chaste Spears began showing up in tabloids and entertainment news shows due to her heavy partying and rebellious lifestyle. She even appeared at a movie premiere with bad boy Colin Farrell , and her many tattoos and the confirmation that she did indeed have sex with Justin only added fuel to the fire. Throw in a nearly naked performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, a performance with caged animals and a snake at the following year's VMAs and a very erotic video for "Slave 4 U," and Britney's good-girl image was down the drain.
A few months before the release of her fourth album, In The Zone , Britney Spears shocked audiences yet again at the VMAs, this time during a remixed rendition of Madonna's "Like A Virgin." Along with Christina Aguilera, Britney kissed Madonna in one of the most memorable -- and scandalous -- moments of the year. In The Zone was released in November 2003, and debuted at No. 1 with more than 609,000 copies sold in its first week of release. That same month, Britney received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In early 2008, police were called to the home of Britney Spears. She was hospitalized briefly, and after that, she started taking strides to clean up her act. She stayed out of the spotlight as much as possible and took on projects that would help improve her image, like making guest appearances on the hit TV sitcom How I Met Your Mother . Surprisingly, viewers were quite impressed with her acting skills.
Britney Spears made waves in the media yet again in 2007 with all kinds of strange antics... She checked into rehab in February, only to check out the next day and walk into a salon to shave all her hair off. She attacked a photographer with an umbrella and was charged with a misdemeanor for a hit-and-run (again, involving the paparazzi). In October, she lost custody of her children to ex-husband K-Fed.
Britney married her former backup dancer, Kevin Federline , on September 18, 2004, and after months of weight-gain rumors, Britney announced that she was pregnant with a baby boy, to whom she gave birth in 2005. The young husband and wife would go on to have another child, a baby boy named Jayden, in 2006, but the couple ended up in court when Britney Spears filed for divorce on November 7, 2006. Soon after her breakup with Federline, Spears began hitting the dance-club circuit with Paris Hilton , and her privates were photographed with no underwear by a number of paparazzi. On February 16, 2007, after months of wild partying, Britney Spears entered a drug rehab facility, but she left the very next day. That night, Britney entered a closed hair salon, and to everyone’s dismay, she shaved her head completely bald. After leaving the salon, Spears visited a tattoo parlor and got several new tattoos. In October of the same year, Spears lost custody of her two boys to Kevin Federline. Britney Spears used to be a "pretty cool chick" but isn't "that way anymore". The 26-year-old singer - who speaks about her comeback following her public breakdown earlier this year in new TV documentary 'Britney: For the Record' - thinks she has lost a lot of the personality which shot her to fame in the first place. She said: "In my situation, I try to make it as normal as possible for me - it could be a lot worse. There are people out there who have it a lot worse than I do. I used to be a cool chick but I feel like the paparazzi has taken that away from me, like, the way I used to live my life. I used to be a cool chick but I'm not anymore." Britney also spoke about her relationship with 'SexyBack' singer Justin Timberlake , who she split from in 2002 after the pair dated for several years. In the promo for the upcoming documentary, Britney said: "With Justin, he was part of the magnitude of what I had become. So when he was gone I was like, 'What am I supposed to do with myself?' He started to do an album for himself and he started to do things for himself, and I just never saw him anymore. When it ended I felt so alone. I didn't really want to think about the reality of it. I never faced it - I just ran." Meanwhile, it has been reported Britney will be performing at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (23.11.08). US TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel , who is presenting the ceremony, says he has been told there is a surprise in store, but has not been given any further details. He said: "They have these surprises that 75 people on the crew know about, but they won't tell the host. Apparently, there is some big surprise. I sent the producer an email yesterday and he was like, I can't tell you."
Britney Spears fears she will die the same way as Princess Diana. The pop babe claims she can't leave her Malibu home without being hounded by paparazzi, and is terrified it will put her life in danger. The sexy star believes she is in the same situation as the late British princess, who was killed following a car chase in Paris in 1997. Britney, who gave birth to her fist child, Sean Preston, four months ago, stormed to America's People magazine: "I don't really go out without him (Sean) and it's kind of sad because I can't walk down the street with the stroller. "This is how Princess Diana got killed." The pop babe says she's begged police to help her escape the attentions of eager shutterbugs. She revealed: "I've pulled over and asked the cops, 'Could you please help me?' And they say, 'Sorry ma'am, I can't help you.' This is how it is." The singer sparked outrage last week when she was photographed steering her SUV with four-month-old Sean Preston perched on her knee. She claimed she drove off with the tot out of his baby seat because she was alarmed by nearby snappers, but later conceded her actions were a "mistake".
Britney Spears says she's improved her singing - by crooning nursery rhymes. The pop babe claims her singing voice has never been better since she's started warbling to her four-month-old son, Sean Preston. She is quoted in Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: "I'll sing 'Mary Had A Little Lamb'. And I make up stuff. "I found out after the baby that I can sing!" Earlier this month, the sexy singer revealed she fears she will die the same way as Princess Diana. The star claims she can't leave her Malibu home without being hounded by paparazzi, and is terrified they will put her life in danger in the future. Britney believes she is in the same situation as the late British princess, who was killed following a car chase with snappers in 1997. The star stormed to America's People magazine: "I don't really go out with him and it's kind of sad because I can't walk down the street with the stroller. "This is how Princess Diana got killed."
Britney Spears wants a breast reduction. The 'Womanizer' singer has mixed emotions about her bust and wants to undergo augmentation to fit into her old stage outfits. Britney, who was seen wearing a cleavage-boosting dress at her birthday party earlier this week, is quoted as saying: "I have a love-hate relationship with my boobs. At the moment I hate them and want them smaller. "I can't wear the kind of suits I used to love, like the red PVC one I got to wear for the 'Oops I Did It Again' video, for example, I don't feel streamlined. "I'm tempted to have a breast reduction so I can slink into some amazing stage outfits for my next set of shows. I know they look sexy but sometimes they get in the way." Britney, 27, is reportedly planning a complete overhaul of her image after being stung by criticism of her recent TV performances. A source said: "To be described as nothing more than a miming porn star was galling and led to her questioning her appearance. "She's now thinking of becoming more of a rock chick. The thing is, she looks great as she is." One insider has claimed Britney is taking diet pills in a bid to speed up her weight loss in preparation for her forthcoming world tour. Another source said: "The pills are like diuretics. She has to go to the bathroom constantly. Everyone knows she still throws up when she's eaten too much."
Britney Spears has reportedly demanded three dressing rooms and 45 minders ahead of her performance on 'The X Factor' tomorrow night (29.11.08). The 26-year-old singer - who wowed fans with an exclusive rendition of her hit record 'Womanizer' at Germany's Bambi Awards last night (27.11.08) - is said to have made more outrageous requests than infamous diva Mariah Carey , who appeared on the British TV talent show two weeks ago. A source said: "It's completely silly. No one has seen anything like it, not even when Mariah Carey was on the show. Britney has ordered the use of three dressing rooms, Mariah only wanted two. "She has also requested the security be tripled, from 15 minders to 45. But it was a coup to get Britney at all, so they are pandering to her every whim." Britney has also banned the show's finalists, as well as judges Simon Cowell , Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh, from requesting autographs or pictures with her. The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "To say it is over the top is an understatement. That not even the judges can ask for pictures with her is beyond belief. The studio has been in lockdown since yesterday in preparation for Britney's arrival. "Simon finds it all hysterical!"
Britney Spears says marrying Kevin Federline was a mistake. The 26-year-old singer - who has two sons, three-year-old Sean Preston and two-year-old Jayden James, with Kevin - wishes she had never walked down the aisle with the former backing dancer. In a promo for her new TV documentary 'Britney: For the Record', Britney said: "I think I married for the wrong reasons. Instead of following my heart and doing what made me really happy, I just did it for the sake of the idea of everything." In the advert, which is accompanied by Britney's new track 'Womanizer', Britney also revealed her split from Kevin has influenced her music. She added: "Your music is a reflection of what you're going through. It's such a part of me, the record, because of what I've gone through." Britney and Kevin married in September 2004 and split in summer 2006. Their divorce was finalised in July 2007. Meanwhile, Britney sparked rumours she has a new boyfriend after she was photographed leaving a Los Angeles restaurant with a mystery man on Monday night (17.11.08). The dark-haired man has now been identified as Salvatore D'Angelo, the manager of Britney's favourite hairdressers, Kim Vo's B2V salon.
Britney Spears treated her children to a shopping spree yesterday (03.12.08). The 'Womanizer' singer - who celebrated her 27th birthday with a circus-themed party on Tuesday (02.12.08) - took Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, to New York's famous Schwarz toy store, where she splashed out hundreds of dollars on them. An onlooker said: "Each of the boys had an employee to walk around with, and they each had a huge metal trolley cart to fill up. They picked out hundreds of dollars worth of Mack Trucks, cement mixers and RC cars." Britney's mother Lynn and father Jamie joined her for the trip, with the singer happily walking around the store with her sons as they picked out their favourite toys. The source added to America's OK magazine: "Sean really fell in love with a car transporter, which he had taken out of the box so he could hold it everywhere he went. Jayden was most excited about a little blue plane, and cried when someone tried to take it away. "Jamie picked out a stuffed Incredible Hulk toy for Sean and was saying to him, 'Who's this, Sean? Who's this?' Britney Spears ' son Jayden James' recent hospitalisation was down to an allergic reaction to fried chicken, doctors believe. The two-year-old tot - who was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Sunday (09.11.08) after suffering a suspected seizure and going into a "vague and unresponsive state" - had eaten the food from a nearby takeaway establishment an hour before falling ill. While he was at the medical centre, doctors performed a variety of tests on Jayden in a bid to discover what had caused the terrifying reaction. A statement posted on Britney's website yesterday (11.11.08) read: "Doctors concluded he had a reaction to something he ingested." Jayden has now been discharged from hospital after being treated. Meanwhile, Mark Vincent Kaplan - the attorney for Kevin Federline , Britney's ex-husband and primary carer of Jayden and the couple's other son, three-year-old Sean Preston - revealed Kevin was impressed with the way 26-year-old Britney had dealt with the situation. Kaplan said: "I think that whatever it is, a food allergy or some other case, we don't know yet. W. 're pleased that someone was aware enough to see that he was having some sort of reaction and do what was necessary to make sure there were no chances taken and got Jayden to the appropriate facility and got the appropriate evaluation to be timely. "I anticipate that Kevin and Britney as concerned parents will exchange information and satisfy themselves that what happened was a freak occurrence and do what they have to do to make sure that it doesn't happen again."
Britney Spears was "in awe" of Simon Cowell when she met him on 'The X Factor'. Simon - who was photographed with Britney and his fellow judges Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole after performing her hit track 'Womanizer' on the British TV talent show on Saturday (29.11.08) - claims the 27-year-old star was stunned when she met him. He said: "This may be a bit egotistical, but I think she was in awe of me. She was just staring at me. I said, 'Touch me, I'm human', and I think that broke the ice." Despite Britney being criticised for miming on the programme, Simon insists the audience were wowed by her performance. He added to US radio host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM show: "There was more buzz, more excitement, for this girl than anyone else. It was as if the president was on the show. I love it. I think if you are going to be a star, be a star. "She was terrific. Very professional. This girl has got huge star quality. You have got to hand it to her. She's a great performer. I would literally have her on my show every week for the next 10 years." Britney is set to celebrate her 27th birthday and the release of her new album 'Circus' with a performance on US TV show 'Good Morning America' today (02.12.08).
Britney Spears is an American pop music singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and author. Her debut album "...Baby One More Time", was released in January 1999, propelled Britney to international stardom. It spawned its five singles, including "...Baby One More Time", which topped the Billboard Hot 100. Spears released her second studio album "Oops!... I Did It Again" in 2000 with similar success. Her third album "Britney" was released in November 2001, followed by the release of her fourth album, "In The Zone", in November 2003. The album's single "Toxic" was an international success and has won Spears her first ever Grammy Award. Her fifth album, "Blackout" was released worldwide in October 2007, with the lead single "Gimme More" earning success at the international and U.S. charts.
Britney Spears has sold over 83 million albums worldwide according to Zomba Label Group. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranks Britney as the eighth best-selling female artist in American music history, having sold 31 million albums in the U.S. Spears's fame in the music industry has led her to experiment with other forms of media, including film and television.
Britney Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana as a Southern Baptist. Her parents are Lynne Irene (née Bridges), a former elementary school teacher, and James Parnell Spears, a building contractor. Her brother, Bryan Spears, works as a manager for the Spears family interests and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is an actress and singer. Her maternal grandmother Lillian Woolmore was an English war-bride, born in Tottenham, London, who met Spears's grandfather Barnett O'Field Bridges in England during World War II. Her paternal grandparents were June Austin Spears and Emma Jean Forbes.
Spears was an accomplished gymnast, attending gymnastics classes until age nine and competing in state-level competitions. She performed in local dance revues and sang in her local Baptist church choir. At age eight, Britney auditioned for the Disney Channel series The New Mickey Mouse Club. Although she was considered too young to join the series at the time, a producer on the show introduced her to a New York City agent. Spears subsequently spent three summers at NYC's Professional Performing Arts School and also appeared in a number of off-Broadway productions, including 1991's Ruthless!. In 1992, Britney landed a spot on the popular television show Star Search. She won the first round of competition, but ultimately lost. At age eleven, Spears returned to the Disney Channel for a spot on The New Mickey Mouse Club in Lakeland, Florida. Spears was featured on the show from 1993 to 1994, until she was 13. Other future celebrities on the show included fellow pop singer Christina Aguilera , 'N Sync members Justin Timberlake and Joshua Chasez, Felicity actress Keri Russell , and The Notebook star Ryan Gosling. After the show ended, Spears returned to Kentwood and attended high school for a year. In 1997, Spears briefly joined the all-female pop group Innosense. Later that same year, Britney recorded a demo solo and was signed by Jive Records. She began a U.S. concert tour sponsored by American teen magazines, and eventually became an opening act for 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys.
The Britney Spears Biography after the Mickey Mouse Club 1999–2004: Britney Spears posed for her first major magazine publication, Rolling Stone in April 1999. Shot by renowned photographer David LaChapelle, the photo shoot garnered widespread criticism for the mixing of wholesome innocence and sex.[citation needed] The cover featured Britney in a skimpy outfit lying on a bed. More controversy arose when Spears declared that she would "remain a virgin until marriage". This has raised questions about her childhood traumas, overt sexuality and relationship with fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake. In early 2002, Spears's four-year relationship with Justin Timberlake ended. Timberlake's 2002 song "Cry Me a River" and its music video, which featured an actress resembling Spears, caused speculation that Spears had been unfaithful; Timberlake, however, denied that his song was meant to portray her.
June 2002 saw the opening of Spears's restaurant "Nyla" in New York City, which served Louisianan and Italian cuisine. However, she was pulled out of the business venture in November as a result of debts and management issues. Nyla officially closed down in 2003. In the same year, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst confirmed that he was in a relationship with Spears. Durst was also hired to help write and produce tracks for her album In the Zone, which were eventually scrapped.
Britney Spears married childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander on January 3 2004, at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The marriage lasted 55 hours, ending with an annulment stating that Spears "lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to marriage because before entering into the marriage the Plaintiff and Defendant did not know each others' likes and dislikes, each others' desires to have or not have children, and each other's desires as to State of residency."
Months after her Las Vegas marriage, Spears embarked on "The Onyx Hotel Tour", which was cancelled in June, after Spears injured her knee during the filming of the video for the single "Outrageous". Britney then became involved in the Kabbalah Centre in September 2004 through her friendship with Madonna . However, she publicly left the religion (Kabbalists make a point that Kabbalah is not a religion but a science) in 2006, stating on her website; "I no longer study Kaballah, my baby is my religion."
Britney, Kevin, and the Kids: The Family Biography 2004–2006: Marriage, children and divorce In July 2004, Spears announced her engagement to Kevin Federline, three months after they met. Federline had recently been in a relationship with actress Shar Jackson, who was eight months pregnant with his second child. These initial stages were chronicled in Spears's first reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic, which aired on UPN in May and June 2005. On the night of September 18, Britney Spears married Federline in a surprise, non-denominational ceremony at a residence in Studio City, California, filing legal papers on October 6. After the marriage, Spears announced via her website that she would be taking another career break to start a family. Britney stood by her intent of starting a family; she announced her pregnancy seven months after the marriage writing, "the time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together." Spears gave birth to her first child, Sean Preston Federline, on September 14, 2005 in Santa Monica, California by a scheduled caesarean section.
A few months after giving birth to Sean, speculation emerged about Britney Spears being pregnant for a second time. Spears announced her second pregnancy in May 2006 with an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Britney also appeared on Dateline the next month to discuss tabloid rumors about an impending divorce, and motherhood. She addressed an incident which occurred in February when photos revealed her driving with her son unrestrained in her lap, explaining, "I see a bunch of photographers and I’m scared and I want to get out of the situation... They’re coming up on the sides of the car which is a scary situation for me... so I get my baby out of the car and I go home." The month following the televised interview, Spears posed nude for the August 2006 cover of Harper's Bazaar. Just two days before Sean's first birthday, Spears gave birth to her second son; Jayden James Federline on September 12 in Los Angeles.
