Jason Voorhees, the protagonist from the Friday the 13th film series, is a notorious serial killer known for his seemingly immortal ability to avoid permanent capture or death as well as his remarkably prolific career as a murderer which has seen his victims’ death toll number in the hundreds.
Jason Voorhees was raised by his mother Pamela; not much is known about his father aside from the fact that he disappeared from the boy’s life early on. Though stories have varied regarding the killer’s early years, it is believed that Jason suffered from some kind of mental and/or physical handicap. That disability led to him and his mother forming an exceptionally close bond as he became the constant focus of Pamela’s attentions.
During a stay at Camp Crystal Lake, an adolescent Jason Voorhees was thought to have accidentally drowned, the result of negligent teenage Camp counselors who were socializing when they should have been watching the boy. As a result, Pamela went insane with anger and over the course of several years was responsible for murdering many employees of the camp as well as visitors and local residents. Eventually, Pamela herself was killed by a would-be victim of hers.
Jason Voorhees soon reappeared in the Crystal Lakearea, however, now a misshapen but very-much-alive adult. How he survived the alleged drowning years earlier has never been explained, though he apparently managed to stay alive and grow to adulthood while living in the woods. He continued his mother’s murderous tendencies, eventually adopting a hockey mask to conceal his deformities.
In the years since, Jason Voorhees has killed many people, and while he himself has been severely injured time and again -- and even seemed to “die” and be buried at least once -- he has always risen again to continue his spree of dread. In fact, it has already been established that Jason will continue to live on at least until the year 2455, where he will become a cyborg lifeform and venture into outer space to continue his killing.
Jason Voorhees is a fictional character from the Friday the 13th series of slasher films. A vicious mass murderer, Jason Voorhees has a presence in all of the Friday the 13th films, even when he is not the killer. With his trademarkhockey goalie mask and machete, JasonVoorhees is arguably among the most recognizable villains from any slasher film.
Throughout the Friday the 13th series, Jason Voorhees has never spoken aside from occasional mumbles and groans, and a few words in the eighth and ninth film of the series, the latter when he possessed another man's body. The first of only three known completely fictional characters to be given the award (the others being Godzilla and Chewbacca), Jason Voorhees was awarded the MTVLifetime Achievement Award for Friday the 13th in 1992.
