Miss Pakistan

Sehr Mahmood was born on on August 10th in Karachi, Pakistan. She moved to Boston, Mass. and the move from Pakistan to the West was a huge change as the culture and lifestyle was verY different but she integrated with the lifestyle of the West. She completed her undergraduate degree - a specialized honors in Economics. She is currently studying for her GMATS as she will apply for a Masters Program next year.

Sehr Mahmood 25, wins Miss Pakistan World 2006. The event took off with a blast and ended with a surprised winner. Shaifa Chandani, took the position of Runner up and Gina Noureen Khan was 2nd Runner Up.

In her words, Sehr Mahmood said, "The pageant was a first for me and all in all, an amazing experience. A pageant is a great platform, which gives Pakistani women the opportunity to emerge as a voice for their community and address issues that need to be dealt with. The best part about being in the pageant was the experience it provided and it made me feel more in touch with the Pakistani community. Even though every girl could not win the crown, they were all still winners as the pageant gave us all the opportunity to explore our hidden talents and encouraged us to do things we had never done before - be it dancing, the cAtwalk or even speaking on a stage in front of millions of people. All has helped build a lot of confidence in the girls and in me personally too. It was a great experience to meet so many different girls from all over Canada and making so many new friends and living with them day in and day Out for 4 days was an awesome experience as it gave us the opportunity to get to know each other intimately. Every girl in the competition was unique in her own way and we all adjusted to each others needs and learnt to get along. The pageant also taught us how to deal with responsibility be it making rehearsals on time, getting out clothes done on time, making sure our choreography was perfect in time for the show and so forth. The coordinators and choreographer did a great job in putting together an awesome and flawless show which hopefully everyone enjoyed. I look forward to representing my country in international pageants and doing the best that I can in bringing honor to the title."

Sehr Mahmood goes to Manila, Phillipines to compete for the Miss Earth pageant!!! Sehr Mahmood, the current winner and queen of Miss Pakistan World, is representing Pakistan in the world's third largest beauty pageant, Miss Earth 2006...

Natasha Paracha from Islamabad has been crowned the new Miss Pakistan World in an annual beauty pageant which, according to its founder, would enable Pakistani women "to stand up for change and progression" in a society that frowns on such events on its soil.

The 23-year-old graduate from the University of California at Berkeley replaces Mahleej Sarkari who created quite a stir last month when she called Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf a hunk and expressed a desire to date him.

At the sixth annual beauty pageant at the weekend in Toronto, the gorgeous Paracha beat a bevy of Pakistani beauties to win the crown. She will now represent Pakistan at various international beauty pageants.

Paracha, who is currently living in New York, founded the Pakistani Student Association at UC Berkley and later a non-profit Vision of Development which works for the uplift of women in rural Pakistan.

After her crowning, she said her goal over the next year is not only to represent Pakistan at beauty pageants but also raise awareness that 51 million Pakistanis do not have access to medical care.

Tahira Iqbal from Lahore, Nosheen Idrees from Jhelum, Binish Zaidi from Karachi and Samera Bilal from Gujrat (in Pakistan) were declared runners-up at the event.

The pageant brought young Pakistani women from around the world to compete for the crown, which many view as anti-Islamic and an insult to Muslim women.

"Pakistan's slow changing movement to liberate its women forbids such events from taking place on its soil. Thus, women who want to stand up for change and progression have no choice but make a trip to Canada to compete," said pageant founder Sonia Ahmed.

"Pakistani women have always been forced to stay in the background. They have never had the opportunities to have their voice heard and stand for what they believe in. It was only after living in Canada that I realised that women really do have the power to make a difference and make a change,".

"WE have made history with PakistaN's 1st Miss Bikini, Pakistan's youngest Miss Pakistan- Sonya Zia and now SEHR Mahmood going 2 Miss Earth. Pakistani women are the most beautiful in the world, but since Pakistan is not discovered yet; more emphasis is laid on this issue."!!!
