Born in Staten Island, New York to an Ecuadorian U.S. Army sergeant father and twenty-year-old mother, Christina was one of the talented "Mickey MouseClub" generation that included Britney and Justin. With a 1999 debut album that instantly marked her vocal range and talent, Christina has become a popdiva with not only the sexy looks, but the pipes to back them up.
After her grandmother identified her vocal talent, Christina was entered onto "StarSearch" at the age of 10, and was afterwards cast on "The Mickey MouseClub," where she appeared alongside futuredivasBritney and Justin. In 1999, her self-titled debut album sold eight million copies in the U.S., leading to a “best new artist” Grammy in 2000. After a Spanish-language album, her second Englishrecord in 2002, "Stripped," focused on a sexier, dirtier Christina—including revealing photo shoots and musicvideos. After slumping sales and vocal chord injuries on her 2004 tour, Christina softened her image to a more old-fashioned platinum-blonde look. Her third English album, a double-disc set entitled "Back to Basics," has a much more mature sound—and did much better with critics.
