Deryck Whibley Biography |
|
Around 1993 Deryck met the future Sum 41 drummer Steve Jocz. The two of them became the first members of the band that had formed from rival bands, 41 days into the summer of 1996. The band has topped charts in several countries. He is Gunner in Sum 41's alter-ego band Pain for Pleasure. Deryck writes all of Sum 41's lyrics ( except for some of Fat Lip) and most of their music. Deryck is part of Bunk Rock music, a music management and production company. In Bunk Rock he had co-produced some of the Sum 41 albums and for his longtime mentor and manager's (Greig Nori) band, Treble Charger albums, in Treble Charger he has also done backing vocals for the album Detox, also he used to produce for No Warning. More recently he is the producer of the first EP album from the side project of bandmate Jason McCaslin, called The Operation. Besides his musical career he has worked on occasion as an actor. He portrayed the character Tony on the movie Dirty Love. More recently along with the new Sum 41 album he is also involved with the next album of Avril Lavigne, where he is producing and writing some of the more rock/punk-rock oriented songs. [1] He was previously in a relationship with Hilton hotels heiress Paris Hilton for a short period. In March 2004 he began dating fellow Canadian singer, Avril Lavigne, and they became engaged in June 2005. Whibley proposed to Lavigne by surprising her with a trip to Venice, a romantic picnic, a gondola ride, and then a helicopter Ride. The couple finally married in a traditional ceremony on July 15th, 2006 at a private estate in the California coastal city of Montecito, located 87 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Lavigne wore a Vera Wang gown, carried pearl white Australian roses and was walked down the aisle by her father. Whibley wore a Hugo Boss suit and was accompanied by four groomsmen, Steve Jocz (his best man), Cone McCaslin, Matt Lavigne, and Sum 41's close friend Robb Dipple. There were about 110 guests in attendance.[2] Their first dance as a married couple was to the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris. When asked if they were ready for kids they said not right now but somewhere down the road. [3][4] [5] [edit] Tattoos- A "41" above his right elbow.
