Michael Jackson, King of Pop. This is IT: lasting legacy. Massive loss
His music is a lasting legacy. As a songwriter, singer and dancer, Michael Jackson was an undoubted genius and the most important pop-music figure since Elvis Presley as well as being related to him, marrying Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie in 1964. Michael Jackson has two lovely children: daughter Paris and son Prince with ex-wife Debbie Rowe. Most of Michael Jackson’s closest friends had also been child stars, one of them is actress Elizabeth Taylor who said “I loved Michael with all my soul…I don’t think anyone knew how much we loved each other – the purest most giving love I’ve ever known.”

Michael Joseph Jackson (born August 29, 1958) is an American musician and entertainer whose successful music career and controversial personal life have been at the forefront of pop culture for the last quarter-century. His music is a lasting legacy. Jackson began his musical career at the age of seven as the lead singer of The Jackson 5 and released his first solo recording, Got to Be There in 1971, while remaining a member of the group.
He began a full-fledged solo career in 1979 and formally parted with his siblings in 1984. In his solo career, Jackson recorded and co-produced the best-selling album of all time, Thriller, which was named as the world’s best-selling album at the 2006 World Music Awards.
It has worldwide sales exceeding that of 104 million. Michael Jackson has received thirteen Grammy awards and charted thirteen number-one singles in the United States.
This is It: Massive headache for Jackson promoters
Experts familiar with Jackson’s horrendous financial situation said the singer was counting on the tour to help pull him out of a reported $400 million in debt. Attorney Jerry Reisman, who represented the Hit Factory in New York when Jackson recorded there, said Jackson desperately needed the tour revenues. “He had substantial debt to creditors throughout the world, and he hoped to use the tour to repay them and create a cash flow for himself,” Reisman said. "He had a very high standard of living.
He lived like a prince, like royalty, traveling by private jets with a huge entourage. His debt was tremendous, exorbitant." This financial pressure led Jackson to agree to 50 shows, a demanding schedule even for a younger, more fit performer. Reisman said the promoters may try to recoup money already paid to Jackson in order to refund money to customers. Joey Scoleri, a promoter with the North American music division of Live Nation, said Jackson’s death had created complex legal and logistical problems for the promoters.
Jackson surrenders control of Beatles songs to beat bankruptcy
Jackson bought the Beatles songbook from under the nose of Sir Paul McCartney in 1985 — only two years after the men had released a duet called Say Say Say. The deal ended their friendship, with Sir Paul complaining that he had to pay to perform his own music in America. Sir Paul recently claimed that he had no interest in buying the songs back, “…I do get some cash from the publishing already. And in a few years more of the rights will be automatically reverting to me…The only annoying thing is, when I tour America, I have to pay to play some of my own songs. But I don’t think about that. Because if I did, it would be just too annoying.”

A video released showed Michael Jackson vigorously practicing a song-and-dance routine days before his death, supporting accounts he had been in good health.
In footage obtained by AFP, the pop legend performed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on June 23, two days before he died, as he prepared for a 50-date set in London starting in July.
Michael Jackson, while thin, is seen dancing with energy in a tightly choreographed sequence with a group of performers. Jackson sings on a headset and at one point pushes back his jacket to reveal his red shirt underneath.
In the footage, Jackson switches sharply in styles in a medley of some of his hits. The video starts with Jackson dancing wildly in front of a rock ‘n’ roll guitarist before a pause for dramatic effect.
Jackson then shifts to a snippet of “Billie Jean,” one of his greatest hits, before singing, “They Don’t Care About Us,” one of his most controversial tracks in which he brought in a hip-hop influence.
The set ends with a sample of a car horn. The stage then fades to black as an outside voice instructs, “Hold for applause.”
Associates of Michael Jackson have described the 50-year-old pop star as being in good form, including at another rehearsal just hours before his death.
Latest Video news about Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, collapsed and died on June 25 at his rented Los Angeles mansion. Speculation has focused on whether Jackson was taking painkillers or other medication.
Jackson’s voice coach Dorian Holley said Jackson was in an upbeat mood in the days before his death, joking around with his wardrobe and makeup staff.
“My friends call and ask, ‘Was Michael sick? Was he weak? Was he ill?’ It’s the absolute opposite of that,” Holley told CNN.
“He was very energetic, he was happy. He was even more playful than he normally was at rehearsal,” he said.
Holley said Jackson, 50, did not show his age.
“I’m sure that he was in pain after some rehearsals. But I got to tell you something — the guys and girls dancing with him were all in their 20s,” he said.
“When Michael was on stage with them, there was only one person that you could watch and that was Michael Jackson,” he said.
A similar account came from Kevin Mazur, who was attending the rehearsal sessions as a photographer.
“He was like an expectant father pacing up and down the stage,” Mazur told Britain’s Sun tabloid.
“He was just so focused. Between songs, he burst into laughter and joked around with his dancers and the director. I have never seen him so happy,” Mazur said.
Jackson had planned a series of concerts at London’s O2 Arena starting on July 13, part of a comeback for the King of Pop whose personal and financial life had sharply deteriorated in the past decade.
Concert promoters AEG Live, who released the video, are offering full ticket refunds for the concerts.
British media reports said about 50 million pounds (59 million euros, 83 million dollars) has been spent on 750,000 tickets.
Michael Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundations, charity singles, and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his often changing appearances and eccentric behavior, generated significant controversy which damaged his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged.
The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, actions which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.
Michael Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World records, including One for “Most Successful Entertainer of All time” 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. At the Time of his death, he was preparing for “This Is It”, a series of 50 concerts that would have been held in London beginning July 13, 2009.
