He spent much of his early childhood on television sets with his mother Charlene Johnson, who was a hairstylist for shows including "Mork & Mindy" (1978), "The Brady Bunch" (1969) and "Charlie's Angels" (1976). He moved with his family from Los Angeles, California to Park City, Utah, when he was twelve years old.
He knew he wanted to be an actor after performing in his high school production of "West Side Story."
He studied pre-med at the University of Utah graduating with a bachelors of science degree. He also attended Yale University's prestigious School of Drama. At Yale he performed in stage productions of "Hedda Gabler" and "Cherry Orchard."
He enjoys flying airplanes, surfing, mountain biking, football, soccer, basketball and kickboxing. He studies with world champion kickboxer Billy Blanks. He also excels at freestyle snow skiing. He had the opportunity to compete against the U.S. Olympic team while living in Utah.
