Professional baseball player who played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1990-95), New York Mets (1996-98), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-99 and 2000), Boston Red Sox (2000), and Atlanta Braves (2001).
Graduated in 1984 from University City High School in St. Louis, earning All-Conference, All-District and All-Metro honors in baseball and basketball. Signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Drake University, but chose to sign with the Cardinals' organization as a non-drafted free agent on 8/22/84.
Bernard, his wife Patrice, and sons Jaelen (b. July 1995) and Caeven (b. February 1999) make their home in his native St. Louis, Mo.
