Born to filmmaker Albert Band, Charles Band followed in his father's shoes. After several years as an independent filmmaker, Band started Empire Pictures in the mid-eighties. Upon the collapse of that company due to the fallen Italian currency where the studio was situated, Band started Full Moon Pictures. In the past decade Full Moon has grown into an empire which encompasses several subdivisions including Pulsepounders, Surrender Cinema, Pulp Fantasy, Action Xtreme, Alchemy, Filmonsters, Moonbeam, Torchlight, Monster Island and Cult Video.

Son of Albert Band. Brother of Richard Band. Father of Alex Band (lead singer of band The Calling) and Taryn Band with his first wife. Has sons Zalman Band and Harlan Band with his second wife, Debra Dion.
Around 2001 or 2002, Charles Band's company Full Moon Pictures name was changed to Shadow Entertainment because he thought their latest released films didn't seem to have that "Full Moon Magic" from in the early 90s.
Full Moon Entertainment's tenure at Paramount Pictures ended in bitter acrimony following a disagreement over the actual budget of the 1994 H.P. Lovecraft adaption of "Lurking Fear". Band claimed the budget to be around $300,000. The studio execs didn't buy it and that was the end of Full Moon's direct to video heyday. The actual budget was well below $100,000.
