Screen and stage actor. He was a member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre group, and appeared in many Welles productions on the radio. Played the policeman Raoul in Nelson Eddy - Claude Rains version of Phantom of the Opera (1943), but better known for his suave villainy in fantasy costumers, often starring Jon Hall. He had one Shakespearean role on film - Banquo in the Orson Welles "Macbeth". His portrayal is often cited as the best of the supporting performances in that film. Attended Columbia University.  ...
