Contributing writer for the humour web-zine www.somethingspace.com Ennis' musical comedy group, Calcu-Lator and the Oral Presentation, were nominated for the prestigious Tim Sims Award in 2003. After failing to earn a callback audition for host of The Toronto Show, Ennis was coincidentally booked to host a stand-up comedy show that featured a network showcase for potential series hosts. He was informed halfway through the evening that he was winning over the network heads, and he went on to land the gig, hosting 120 episodes of the late night comedy and music series.
