Francisco Lorite Description |
|
Date of Birth
11 August 1969, Spain
Mini Biography
Francisco Lorite is from Spain. He grew up loving Sergio Leone movies and wanting to be Jean-Paul Belmondo. He wrote-directed and acted in his first film at 14 and left for the US six years later, teaching himself English by reading voraciously and watching "Three's Company" re-runs. While in NYC, he appeared in several Off-Broadway plays (for which the New York Times dubbed him "quite an act" and El Diario/La Prensa "an undeniable presence"), indie films and lots and lots of car commercials. He also became a member of the Shakespeare Lab at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre.
In 2005, Lorite wrote and directed a ten-minute comedy-noir called "Cuco Gomez-Gomez is Dead!" The no-budget but highly stylized piece ended up screening over 150 times in the US alone and getting sold for broadcast. It also won five awards --including the Imagen Award for Best Theatrical Short, while receiving much press coverage because of Lorite's directorial flair but also his unusual approach to producing: He asked his actors to be his crew and pitch in $100 each to jump-start the film.
Shortly after Cuco's success, Francisco Lorite founded Man In A Suit Productions, for which he wrote and directed the thinking man's revenge flick "Random" in 2007. A clear throwback to 70s-style American filmmaking as well as the French New Wave, it is also a very personal story, loosely inspired by a random stabbing suffered by Lorite.
