Mini Biography
When you look at his schooling, Gert Embrechts was, in fact, an electrician. But after a few years of working in the building trade, he decided to do something completely different and started at the Brussels film school in 1987. Because he had to finance his studies himself, he combined education with working on sets as ... an electrician. Quickly he got to know the small Belgian movie scene inside and out. After finishing film school in 1993, he started working as a first assistant director. Six years later he decided to make his own films. His first short film - 13 (1999/I) - received much attention, winning awards in several film festivals in Europe and the US.
