Born in Sydney Australia on October 12, 1968, Hugh was your everyday kid. The youngest among 4 other siblings, he grew up in an ordinary household. while still very young Hugh had to endure his parents separation and divorce.
Acting held no real interest for Hugh initially. He went to the University of Technology Sydney looking to major in journalism. It was only by looking for an easy credit that he discovered the joys of performing. He took to it immediately, acting in several college productions. When he finished school, he was hooked!
Others took notice of Hugh's talent, and he was offered a role in a major daytime soap, Neighbours. Looking towards a bigger horizons, Hugh opted to continue his studies. He attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he furthar developed his singing and acting skills.
Following his graduation Hugh took on a starring role in the ABC television drama Corelli. It was durring the filming that he met his future wife Deborra-Lee Furness. Following Corelli, Hugh took the Australian theatre by storm starring as Gaston in an Australian production of Beauty and the Beast; he then went on to play Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard. As his professional life blossomed, so did his private life. Hugh and Deborra-Lee were married in February of 1996.
In 1998 he was cast as Curly in the Royal National Theatre's production of Trevor Nunn's Oklahoma, for which he recieved high acclaim. It was this role that had him discovered by Hollywood, because in 1999 he was cast in the role of Wolverine in X-Men. The huge success of the film had Hugh move to the U.S. to persue his career. In May of 2000, Hugh and Deborrah-Lee adopted a newborn baby boy, Oscar Maximillian.
Following up X-Men with the enormously sucessfully Swordfish and Kate & Leopold, Hugh has kept busy. With the sequel to X-Men and Standing Room Only around the corner, Hugh continues to push himself personally and professionally.
