Mini Biography
Ian Power is a writer director from Dublin, Ireland. He has a degree in English and History of Art from University College Dublin, and a first class honours from the M.A. Film, at the Dublin Institute of Technology.
In 1998 he won the Journeyman Prize for Scriptwriting from the European Commission for his script 'Buskers', which he later directed and successfully premiered in May 2000 having won an RTE / Filmbase Award.
'Buskers' won the Award for Best Irish Short at the Galway Film Fleadh that year as well as the Jury and Audience Awards at the Cork Film Festival and the Foyle Film Festival Award for Best Irish Short. It was also nominated for a Turner Classic short award at the Regis London Film Festival and was named as Oscar choice by Ifilm.com (now Spike.com).
Ian has been directing commercials since 2001. His credits include his popular 'Change of Mood' spot for Lyric Fm. He has won numerous awards for his work in this field, including an ICAD award for best direction. He was also featured in Shot's magazine.
In 2003 Ian received an RTE / Irish Film Board Short Cut Award to make his short film 'The Wonderful Story of Kelvin Kind'.
'The Wonderful Story of Kelvin Kind' was completed in mid 2004 and was picked up by Warner Bros. for a nationwide release with the Keanu Reeves feature 'Constantine'. In April 2005 the short won the Jury Bronze Torc for Best Short Drama at the Celtic Film & Television Festival.
In 2005 Ian was selected for the prestigious Moonstone Filmmakers Lab (European equivalent of the Sundance Lab) for his project 'Daydream Believes' in which he took part in January 2006. He has also completed workshops with Luis Mandoki ('When A Man Loves A Woman'), Paul Schrader ('Taxi Driver'), and Jim Sheridan ('My Left Foot').
He recently set up the production company Poderosa Pictures to develop his own projects.
Since then Ian has written the feature scripts 'Daydream Believers', 'The Wild Nine' and 'The Runway' which are being developed by the Irish Film Board.
