James M Dowaliby Biography

Date of Birth 21 August 1953, Tokyo, Japan Mini Biography James M. Dowaliby is an experienced producer and media executive who has held senior positions in original production and programming, business affairs and finance at two major film studios, a cable network, an international broadcaster, an International theatrical film distributor and two independent production companies.

He has acquired, developed or produced properties for virtually all television formats including including long-form and dramatic television series and is experienced in all aspects of franchise property acquisition, development, finance, production, marketing and distribution. In addition, he works in digital television, web series and other programming, game properties and digital music formats.

He has produced series and long-form television for both US and international markets and supervised productions in Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland and the United Kingdom.

Current feature projects include the boy and the dog are dead, adapted from the PEN Award winning novel by Nasdijj, currently in development at FilmFour, Night Flying and a feature film based on Rita Murphy's first novel in development with Boda and Sgrin, the Welsh Film Board. Other Current projects include Gideon's Game, an adaptation of W.P. Kinsella's novel The Iowa Baseball Confederacy.

He joined Paramount Pictures in 1998 to found the international production and co-production division of Paramount Television Group, the world's largest producer and distributor of television programming. His responsibilities included developing and producing programming for the international marketplace, structuring production and financing arrangements with International broadcasters and working with Paramount's production entities to develop cross-border programming. Now producing under his own banner, he retains a "first look" relationship with Paramount International Television, specializing in international features, long-form and series television.

During his tenure at Paramount, he built a $100 Million production slate including 3 one-hour series, 2 mini-series and 10 films for television. He launched projects with leading international broadcasters: the hit series Largo for M6 (France), Pro7 (Germany) and Global (Canada), the critically praised Higher Ground series for Fox Family Channel and WIC (Canada), the mini-series Tribe with the Seven Network (Australia) and the mini-series Messiah for the BBC, of which he was Executive Producer. He also brought USA network's upcoming series, Stephen King's dead Zone, to Paramount.

Dowaliby broke new Ground by focusing on prestigious projects with leading government broadcasters including the BBC, TF1 and RAI. He established important co-production precedents in Australia, obtaining the first Australian Film Financing Corporation support for an Australian project with a US studio and the first 10B(a) certificate for Showtime Premier Movie Partnership, the leading Australian pay cable service, co-owned by five major studios.

He was previously the U.S. producer for Yorkshire Television Group's wholly owned film and television production subsidiary, Griffin Productions. While there, he produced two films for television and set Yorkshire's production deal at Universal, which he later moved to Paramount.

Dowaliby headed in-house production at The Family Channel, the sixth largest cable network in the United States reaching 80 million homes. As Vice President in Charge of Production, he supervised original telefilms, series, animation and specials for the $40 Million production slate. Before joining The Family Channel, he was Chief Financial Officer of NorthStar Entertainment Group and Intercontinental Releasing Corporation, a founding member of the American Film marketing Association.

Production credits include Executive Producer of Messiah (BBC & Paramount, 2001), now in its third series, Executive Producer of The Place Of Lions (1997, YTV), and The Human Bomb (1996, Showtime Network) and Executive Producer of The Family Channel's Premier slate of original films including Dad, The Angel & Me (1995), Tad (1995), Good King Wenceslas (1994), and Candles In The Dark (1993). He was the Executive Producer (US) with Earl Hamner and Don Sipes of 44 episodes of Snowy River: The McGregor SAGA series. He executive produced and supervised production of three half-hour family series and supervised the acclaimed animated "Madeline" series and "The Wind In The Willows" for the Family Channel.

Dowaliby graduated from Yale University and holds a Master's degree from the Yale School of Management. He resides in Los Angeles, California and is the father of thirteen year old Max, a classical cellist and percussionist, turntablist, and all-around digital whiz.Steven M Miller Jr, Staff Writer
