Mini Biography
Jock Hedblade is a producer, writer, director and actor. After graduating with Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television Production with a Theatre Emphasis from Western Illinois University in his hometown of Macomb, he moved to Chicago and began acting. He soon found himself being cast in everything from improvisational comedy revues to Shakespeare. He landed bit parts in feature films "Backdraft" and "Wildcat's" and a featured role on the popular network television series "Unsolved Mysteries."
He attended Chicago's Second City Conservatory, after which he created, produced, directed, wrote and performed in the long running, critically acclaimed "'TV or Not TV.". The live multi-media comedy revue garnered glowing reviews from the Chicago press including the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.
From there Hedblade went on to create, produce, write and direct the "Toon Attic" a tongue-in-cheek nostalgic children's program geared for the baby boomer generation.
Jock's love of cigars led to a short stint in the cigar business and being the inspiration for La Flor Dominicana's wildly popular El Jocko cigar.
In 1994 he combined his background in broadcasting and his life-long love of music and record collecting to create "Super Thriller Radio" on Chicago's WCRB-FM. As co-host along side his brother Jay "Jocko" took the listening audience on "a runaway rocket ride into the musical fourth dimension." The popularity of STR lead to he and his brother sharing the Music and Program Director duties for WEBX-FM "The Web". There the brothers spearheaded one of the world's first ever, live streaming Internet radio stations.
After a starring role as Tommy LaRocca in the independent film "Waiting For The Man" Hedblade became Coordinating Producer for FOX television's "Fox Thing in the Morning" in 1999. There he was responsible for creating, producing and writing daily and weekly entertainment and news packages including a weekly segment with Ebert & Roeper's Richard Roeper. It was also at FOX that his producing skills earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in an entertainment Program from national Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the special "Smashing Pumpkins: Full Circle". With Pumpkin leader Billy Corgan's full cooperation and participation the program was a loving retrospective of the super star bands rise and fall. Corgan later stated it was "the best documentary on the Pumpkins" he'd ever seen.
A year later Hedblade repeated this achievement for Chicago's PBS affiliate WTTW earning another Emmy for producing and directing the hour special "How Chicago Rocked The 60's". Written and hosted by Chicago TV veteran Bob Sirott the documentary featured interviews and performances from The Buckinghams, The Ides of March, The New Colony Six, The Cryan' Shames, The Mauds, The Flock, American Breed and Chicago.
Jock or Jocko as he's sometimes known, also spent a year as a producer, writer and booker on the nationally syndicated "Mancow's Morning Madhouse" Radio program, an irreverent morning talk show host by the controversial Mancow Muller. along with writing for the program Hedblade brought to the studio such high profile artists as, Dave Navarro, Common , The New Pornographers, Jim Belushi, Dinosaur Jr., Gary Sinis and legends like Mike Love, Ed McMahon, Thomas Dolby, Bill Kurtis, ZZ Tops' Billy Gibbons, Michael York, and Elliot Gould.
Hedblade is currently producing three documentaries. The first is another project Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) has personally asked him to over see which chronicles Corgan's "Chicago Song's" project and live concert.
