Sydney lives in North Carolina with her parents Jerry and Julie and her sister Alex (13) who is also an actress. The rest of Sydney's family reside in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Sydney's Dutch last name comes from her grandparents who immigrated to the USA in 1950 from The Netherlands. Sydney's father Jerry is first generation born in the USA. The family still uses the lower case "ter" at the beginning of their last name.
Sydney and her sister Alex are working on a campaign they titled "Tie One On" to raise money and awareness of AIDS. Sydney's Uncle Mike (Michael M. Dunn) passed away after having AIDS for 8 years in 2001.
Sydney loves to collect rocks. She has over 120 rocks in her collection and has rocks from 3 continents!
Sydney LOVES ice cream - Cookie Dough is her favorite!

Sydney's father is a Dentist. She is the younger sister of Alexandria (Alex) ter Avest.
Sydney will remain 6 years old forever as she has a full body statue in the Smithsonian Muesum in Washington D.C. exhibit "America on the Move" in the Muesum of American History. Sydney's statue greets you at the beginning of the exhibit as she is a child of 1876 at a train depot seeing a train for the very first time with her parents.
Her favorite role in a musical is when she was The Ghost of Christmas Past" in Ira David Wood, III production of "A Christmas Carol". Sydney was 9 years old in this role.
Sydney won a Cheynne Kimball look alike contest in 2006.
Plays "Young Jennifer" in a flashback scene in Hunter Hill and Perry Moore's movie "Lake City" - Actress/Model Rebecca Romijn plays the adult Jennifer character.
She was selected to sing the "National Anthem" for the Durham Bulls in the 2007 season, after doing so for the Durham Bulls/USA Baseball summer 2006.
