In 1957, recent university graduates Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard recasted folk music in such a way that it became irresistible to college students. When Tom Dooley became a gold record in 1958, the folk revival was gave rise to numerous other groups, including The Limeliters, The Brothers Four, Chad Mitchell and The Smothers Bros. The stage was set for Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter Paul & Mary, The Byrds, and the protest movement of the 60s.
