Achieving independence on June 25, 1991, Slovenia is currently comprised of 12 statistical regions, of which Zasavska is the smallest and most centrally located. The primary Geography of Zasavska is alpine landscape, and the weather throughout the year is typical of such geographic locations. The official language is Slovenian, the primary religion is Roman-Catholic, and as of January 1, 2007 the Euro is the common denomination. Ethnically, Zasavska is comprised of approximately 83% Slovenian, with the balance as Serb, Croat, Bosniak, and approximately 8.3% undeclared ethnicity. Typical of Slovenia, Zasavska enjoys one of the highest GDPs of new EU countries, and with a high level of education has seen growth in the banking, telecommunications, and public utility industries.
