Another famous story is that of the disappearance of Peter Falconio and the conviction of Bradley John Murdoch.
This is what wikipedia says about it.
Peter Falconio is the name of a man who came from England to visit Australia in 2002, and then went missing near a place called Barrow Creek, and police say that he is dead. His girlfriend Joanne Lees was there too, but she did not die. A big court case decided that a man called Bradley John Murdoch had killed Peter Falconio. This is one of Australia's greatest ever murder mysteries. One movie called Wolf Creek was made that is similar to the story, and they were not allowed to show the movie until after the trial.
Peter Falconio and his girlfriend Joanne Lees were fighting with each other. Joanne Lees was going to leave Peter Falconio as she had a new boyfriend in Australia. Some people think that this means that Joanne Lees wanted to kill Peter Falconio. Some people think that she might have asked Bradley John Murdoch to kill Peter Falconio for her.
Bradley John Murdoch sold drugs to people. Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees liked to buy drugs. Some people think that they knew each other, and had stopped so that Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees could buy drugs from Bradley John Murdoch.
Peter Falconio owed a lot of money in taxes, and he was scared. Peter Falconio had told people that he wanted to fake his own death. Lots of different people say they saw Peter Falconio over a week after police say that he died.
Bradley John Murdoch had also hurt other people too. He had once shot at some aborigines just for fun. He had told people that he thought he was being followed and was going to get rid of them. Some people think that he raped some women too.
This remains a great mystery and many people have different stories as to what really happened.

There is the famous story Of Azaria Chamberlain. Her family were camping near Ayers Rock in Alice Springs when a dingo (wild dog) snatched the baby Azaria, and she was never seen again. The police did not believe that a dingo could do such a thing, so the mother Lindy was charged with murder. She was found guilty and sentenced to jail. She appealed the decision and was found not guilty in the re-trial and released. There is still debate today over whether she was guilty or not and over what happened to the baby's body. A movie called 'Evil Angels' starring Meryl Streep as Lindy was made about this story.
