|
Satan is a Judeo-Christian term which is, together with the Islamic term Shaitan, traditionally applied to an angel, demon, or minor God in many religions.
The idea of this ultimate agent of evil as the Prince of Darkness was most likely introduced (or strongly influenced) by the Iranian (Persian) prophet Zoroaster, whose ideas would later influence Judeo-Christian beliefs. Although Zoroaster’s beliefs concentrated on the duality and struggle between ultimate good and ultimate evil, it was the Judaic adaptation of these beliefs which portrayed Satan as the inferior enemy of God. Zoroaster saw the enemy as also omnipotent.
Satan plays various roles in the Hebrew Bible, the Apocrypha and the New Testament. In the Hebrew Bible, Satan is an angel that God uses to test man for various reasons usually dealing with his level of piety (e.g. the test in the Book of Job). In the Apocrypha and New Testament, Satan is portrayed as an evil, rebellious demon that is the enemy of God and mankind. However, in both Jewish and Christian theology Satan is not understood as a true equal to God.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

Now you may be wondering, "Why do you own Satan.com? Are you some Satanist trying to recruit on Weblo?" Not even close. I believe that there is a God and that won't leave me. But I'm curious as to where did Satan come from? Does this evil being really exist or is he just used an excuse for us to not take responsibility for our actions? I like these types of questions because if you're questioning, you're thinking for yourself...and that's great. The U.S.A. is frequently referred to by its opponents as "The Great Satan", dating back to the time of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who referred to the United States as the Great Satan in the aftermath of the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran. Some Islamic fundamentalists claim that the U.S.A. is Satan himself. They perceive they are on the side of God in a struggle against Satan who is personified by the U.S.A.. Satan is being used to create an ever increasing degree of hatred for the U.S.A. a relatively new technique in international relations.
Pope Benedict XVI stated that "the red dragon" was responsible for the Nazi dictatorship and the dictatorship of Stalin. With respect to the international relations in 2007, the Pope charged that "the red dragon" is active currently in "new and different ways". Satan is held responsible for much of the world's troubles primarily by those who take a spiritual view of history.
