Pink, Jonas Brothers Take Over TV And Movie Sets For VMAs
As we prepare for Sunday's big show, Hollywood goes about its business
All eyes will be on Britney Spears as she opens MTV's Video Music Awards ceremony in the early hours of Monday despite a disastrous comeback at last year's show.
Her lacklustre and widely-ridiculed performance of Gimme More was followed by a series of problems for the troubled pop star, including losing custody of her two young children.
But the 26-year-old has said she will not sing at this year's event in Los Angeles, but would offer something "fun and unexpected" instead.
Spears said that MTV had "long played an important role in my career" and added: "How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?"
"I'm excited to open the entire show, to say 'hi' to my fans and to be nominated," she said.
She is in the running for three VMAs, including best video for Piece Of Me.
Before her disastrous comeback performance last year, she made headlines at the 2006 ceremony for her kiss with Madonna.
British comedian Russell Brand, a virtual unknown in the US, will present Sunday night's show from the Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
He said Spears would be "doing something so mind-bending, I think it's going to tease you and probably make you want to start families with each other".
"It's going to be, actually, bloody exciting," he said.

Britney Spears opened the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles tonight, and showed off her acting skills in the process.
Spears, who recently made an appearance on TV show ‘How I Met Your Mother’, starred in a short comedy sketch with ‘Superbad’ actor Jonah Hill, before being filmed walking from her dressing room to the stage to introduce the ceremony.
Walking on stage, Spears received a standing ovation from the crowd, including the likes of Fall Out Boy, Paramore and Kid Rock.
Spears also picked up the award for Best Female Video for her song ‘Piece Of Me’, and made a brief thank you speech in which she thanked God and her two sons whom she said inspire her every day. Spears was cheered on by her recently re-hired manager Larry Rudolph, the man responsible for her meteoric rise to fame as a teenager.
This year’s ceremony is hosted by Brit comedian Russell Brand, who achieved fame in the US thanks to his role in the movie ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’.
Brand used part of his opening speech to appeal to viewers to vote for Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, and made fun of Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, including the news that her teenage daughter is pregnant

"She's not performing, but she's certainly doing [the show] in a professional capacity," Brand said during the Thursday edition of Ryan Seacrest's syndicated radio show.
All Brand would reveal about Spears' scheduled appearance was this: "She's not serving canapes or doing a bizarre haircut on herself. I might get the opportunity to pinch her back in revenge for the trailer. ...I know at some point I will try and pinch her!"

As for which stars will actually be providing some musical entertainment Sunday night, Kanye West and Christina Aguilera have just been added to the bill -- which already included Rihanna, T.I., Lil Wayne, Katy Perry (who's scheduled to sing Madonna's "Like a Virgin"), the Jonas Brothers, Pink, The Ting Tings and Kid Rock.
It seems West is uncharacteristically keeping his ego in check to take the VMA gig. Last year, the rapper swore he'd never do the VMAs again because he was miffed he didn't get to play the main stage, reported Rolling Stone. As for what he'll be performing, the mag speculates that he's planning to unveil his new single, "Love Lockdown."
As for Aguilera, she'll be celebrating the VMAs 25th anniversary by taking us on a trip back in time. The singer will dust off her debut hit, "Genie in a Bottle."
Check back Sunday night for news, galleries and more from the 2008 VMAs.

Mariah Carey "Touch My Body" Directed by Brett Ratner
What does Mimi want? She's laying it out pretty straight here. And while she plays it a sensual as ever, enter Jack McBrayer (Kenneth on NBC's 30 Rock) as a daydreaming computer geek and things get hysterical fast.

Bi-curiosity went mainstream and sales of cherry Chap-Stick skyrocketed this year as Katy unleashed this hook-filled confessional that became a big hit. And this sexy, flirty video didn't hurt the cause much, either.

This "it" girl can't seem to miss! When she took the energy level down a few notches on this one, she sold it just as well as we've come to expect. Let's just say, getting the kiss-off from Rihanna would be better than most.

Do you doubt an American Idol? Some do, but Jordin certainly didn't let down anyone who cast their votes for her when she released this duet with Chris Brown. And the video? Oh man, it's something worth idolizing.
