Shrines, Objects & Artifacts Details

Kick off your Labor Day weekend with a special treat and sneak preview of Kentuck¿s September exhibit ¿Shrines, Objects and Artifacts¿, featuring a sample of the Paul W. Bryant Museum¿s permanent collection in Tuscaloosa. The exhibit will be unveiled just in time for the University of Alabama¿s first home game with special viewing hours at the Kentuck Gallery in downtown Northport from 10 am ¿ 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 2. This is the first time the collection has been assembled for an exhibition and shown to the public. ¿Shrines, Objects and Artifacts¿ will be on display throughout the month of September for fans and art enthusiasts. The collection includes a huge variety of gifts and memorabilia such as handmade quilts, whirligigs, lamps and even a vintage red and white football shaped wooden purse. Also included in the exhibit are footballs painted by local artist Don Barnes, each of the footballs were actually used in the game that the painting represents. The objects are all designed and handmade by fans over time in honor of the legendary coach Paul ¿Bear¿ Bryant and the Crimson Tide football team. The Paul W. Bryant Museum opened to the public on October 8, 1988 with a mission to collect, preserve and exhibit items, and to disseminate information relating to the sports history of the University of Alabama. The first items ever donated that are included in this exhibit are the 28 miniature sculptures by artist Chuck Cladwell. These miniature sculptures were donated right after the opening in 1988.
