About englishfemale
Hi,
I am from West Yorkshire, UK, but living in Hurghada on the Red Sea in Egypt for a few years, buying and selling apartments.
The thing I miss most is the English weather! After day after day of sun and no rain you just wish it would rain. The temperature here is hottest in July and August, but gets cold for about three months of winter, with a cold wind. Air-con is a must during the summer.
It is a very friendly place and a very safe place to wander around, even in the early hours of the morning.
Property is not expensive compared to UK prices. You can buy a new apartment from 15,000 gbp, especially if you go straight to the seller and not use the estate agents. For about 25,000 you can have a finished, furnished apartment with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living and dining area. For 30- 50,000 with swimming pool. Always best to get an egyptian to do the haggling over price, also they know what the prices are and if you are being charged too much. There is a price for Egyptians and a price for foreigners lol! Never seem too interested and then get someone to ask the price a few days later.Â
HURGHADA
Hurghada has become an international center for aquatic sports like windsurfing, sailing, deep-sea fishing, swimming, and above all snorkeling and diving. The unique underwater gardens offshore are some of the finest in the world, justifiably famous amongst divers. The warm waters here are ideal for many varieties of rare fish and coral reefs, which may also be observed through glass bottom boats.
The city provides a gateway to prime diving sites throughout the Red Sea. Its central location provides favorable access to very famous dive sites. In addition, Hurghada is known for providing access to many uninhabited offshore reefs and islands.
There are also many tours to the mountains and desert safaris on camels, horses, quads. On theses Safaris you can visit a bedouin village and experience their life.
Hurghada is a good spot to visit all the historical sites in Egypt as it is quite central. You will find many tours to take you to see the pyramids, museum, Luxor, Karnak, and the Temples of Abu Simbel.
Accommadation is for all prices from bed and breakfast, private apartments and villas, hotels (all prices) from modest to luxurious.
After lazing on the beach, swimming, diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, submarine trip, Ride on a Camel,at night you can dance away in many of the discos (Ministry of Sound, Havana Club, Buddah Bar etc.), or sit and drink, smoke the water pipe, in many of the bars and cafes and people watch. Shops and Bazaars are open till early hours of the morning.
