M If only all of this set were as brilliantly melodic and driving as its best three tracks. As is it is, this is a mixed bag of tuneful, high-energy post-bop and more introspective music. Abercrombie is on form, with all of his techniques applied with artistry and imagination. In the course of a single tune or even a single chorus he will weave together moaning swoops of sound, delicate volume swells, and Pat Martino-like, rapid fire, single note runs. M!ssundaztood Pink's debut album was a promising collection of dance-pop, easily lumped into the teen pop boon of 2000 since she was young and sang over savvy, skittering club beats. Those comparisons irked -- hell, angered -- Pink, and she was determined to prove she was real with her second album. So she called up her idol, Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes fame, to help her rock and write; bared her soul; fought for some artistic control; brought in Steven Tyler; and wound up with M!ssundaztood, a title boun... |

In fact, through the utilization of a wide range of instruments that include chimes, timbales, marimba, vibes, xylophone, tympani, various bells and steel drums, there are quite a lot of melodies to be heard during these nine performances (which are all group originals other than Thelonious Monk's "Epistro... |

M'Ocean M'Ocean is another Earth Turtle Music reissue by Michael Stearns. He released it first as Light Play on cassette on the Continuum Montage label in 1983. In 1984, Sonic Atmospheres released it on cassette and CD. Tracks two through six were originally written for live performances. Stearns composed and performed track one -- "Sirens" -- on an Oberheim OB8 synthesizer, one of the first digitally controlled analog synths. He created the piece as soon as he set up the synth. Track seven -- "Walki... |
