About the FDIC
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures deposits in member banks for up to $100,000, and was created in response to the banking crises of the Great Depression.
Headquartered in the District of Columbia, the FDIC has regional offices across the country. The FDIC is managed by a five-person board of directors, all of whom are appointed by the US President and confirmed by the Senate.
