The Sundance Institute sponsors the Sundance Film Festival, an annual winter event in Utah.
Founded in 1981 by actor Robert Redford, the non-profit organization provides a curriculum for emerging, independent filmmakers in areas such as documentary and feature film, screenwriting, and film music. It also offers programs for Native American artists and high school students.
The Sundance Institute preserves a collection of independent films at UCLA and holds an annual conference for producers focusing on the business aspects of filmmaking.
The institute's Sundance Theatre Laboratory assists emerging actors and playwrights.
