Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Description
Boy Scouts of America (BSA), one of the nation's largest youth organizations, has about 2.9 million youth members and 1.2 million adult leaders in some 122,500 units. BSA offers educational and character-building programs emphasizing leadership, citizenship, personal development, and physical fitness. In addition to traditional scouting programs (Tiger, Cub, Webelos, and Boy Scouts, ranging up to Eagle rank), it offers the Venturing program for boys and girls ages 14-20. BSA generates revenue through membership and council fees, supply and magazine sales, and contributions. The organization was founded by Chicago publisher William Boyce in 1910.
