The Brehaut House was built in 1893. Immaculately maintained, it has never
required restoration and stands today essentially as it was built. In its
over one hundred year history it has changed owners only four times.

This nationally recognized home has been featured in many books and
publications, It is truly one of the bay areas most famous Victorian

This is a 2-story wood frame House of irregular L-plan sheathed in
horizontal wood siding and shingle. Roof is a combination hipped and
gabled. The house is distinguished by a 2-story tower with .witch.s cap.
roof at left front, and a curved wrap-around front porch with turned posts
and railing and gabled entry with decorative barge boards and panels.
Flared front stairs are intact with railing and square newel posts. The
front gable comprised of slanted bay with arched window topped by a
three-paneled window whose framing extends to frame small gable window,
forms an elegant composition. A finial tops the witch.s cap. Superb art
glass windows line the entry.

This is an ultra-typical and representative example of the towered Queen
Anne House as built in Alameda in the years 1889-1897. It is richly
decorated and confident in its composition. The house was designed by
Charles Schaner, a local architect and builder of the years 1885-1910, who
catered primarily to wealthier Alamedians. His designs are respected for
their general excellence.
