Description |

The Citadelle - the French name is used both in English and French - is a military installation and official residence located atop Cap Diamant, adjoining the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. This citadel is part of the fortifications of Quebec City, the only city with extant city walls in North America.
The Quebec Parliament Building and many other provincial government buildings and several large hotels are also nearby, towering over this sunken or flat citadel, typical of late 18th century and early 19th century castrametation.
La Citadelle de Québec est un lieu historique national canadien. Plus précisément, c’est une immense ligne de fortifications militaires située sur le Cap Diamant, en plein cœur du Vieux-Québec. En 1850, après 30 ans de labeur quotidien, la construction de la forteresse était enfin terminée! Elle présente la forme d’un polygone à quatre angles qui s’étend sur une superficie de 37 acres. Dans chacun des angles est aménagé un abri militaire. Dans cette forteresse, on y retrouve deux bâtiments du régime français, la résidence du Gouverneur général du Canada et de nombreux édifices très bien conservés.
