The Indianapolis Museum of Art is among the largest and oldest general art museums in the United States. Founded in 1883, the Museum now boasts a permanent collection of more than 50,000 works of art that span the range and scope of art history. In addition to housing its world-class art collections, the Museum is also a premier showcase for national and international exhibitions.
For more than 120 years the Museum has served the community through its collections and programs. Most recently it has completed a building project that improved visitor access and amenities and created new gallery space for display of the Museum's collections. The building expansion has several components, the most visible of which are the Efroymson Entrance Pavilion, the Wood Gallery Pavilion and the Deer-Zink Events Pavilion.
The Efroymson Entrance Pavilion serves as the primary point of visitor access to the Indianapolis Museum of Art and its collections, exhibitions and programs. The Wood Gallery Pavilion provides 50 percent more display space for the collections and offers improved visitor amenities, including two new restaurants, an expanded museum shop and significant new spaces for educational 
programs. The Deer-Zink Events Pavilion is a venue for special events and selected IMA public programs.
The Indianapolis Museum of Art is the cornerstone of the IMA’s three complementary parts, which also include the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park and Oldfields–Lilly House & Gardens. With unique art experiences, including the new Davis X Room and Star Studio, the Indianapolis Museum of Art is a place where people of all ages can explore and understand the connections between art and themselves.
The Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, 11:00 am-5:00 pm, Thursday and Friday 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Sunday noon to 5:00 pm. Closed Monday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's days.
Just 15 minutes from the center of downtown Indianapolis, the IMA is at the corner of 38th Street and Michigan Road.
