The idea of Lucy The Elephant was conceived by engineer and inventor James Vincent De Paul Lafferty jr. She was built in 1881 by contractors for a repoerted cost of $25,000, though Lafferty claimed the finished cost was about $38,000. That had too have been a ton of cash almost 130 years ago. Anyway Lucy is something to see.
