National Thoroughbred Racing

the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) is a broad-based coalition of horse racing interests consisting of leading thoroughbred racetracks, owners, breeders, trainers and affiliated horse racing associations, charged with increasing the popularity of horse racing and improving economic conditions for Industry participants. The NTRA has offices in Lexington, Ky., and Rye Brook, N.Y.

The NTRA was formed in 1998 with startup funding provided by Breedersā Cup Limited, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, The Jockey Club, Keeneland Association, Oak Tree Racing Association and the National Thoroughbred Association.

Key people include President and CEO Alex Waldrop; Sr. Vice President of Communications and Industry Relations Keith Chamblin; CFO Vicki Bungardner:NTRA Advanatge Sr. Vice President Terry McElfresh and Executive Chairman Robert Elliston.

National Thoroughbred Racing Association

the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) oversees the Thoroughbred horseracing Industry, acting as governing body, promoter, and trade association. It sets rules, regulates membership, and organizes races, and it helps promote the sport through negotiating broadcasting rights and marketing sponsorships.
In addition, NTRA lobbies on behalf of pari-mutuel wagering (handicapping), licenses thoroughbred breeders, and sells racing merchandise. Along with sister company Breeders\? Cup Limited, it hosts the ten Breeders\? Cup races, including the Breeders\? Cup Classic. NTRA was formed by a consortium of horseracing bodies in 1998.
