Ashland Municipal Airport, Oregon, USA - Welcome to Ashland, Oregon.
Located between the Siskiyou Mountains and the Cascades, the city of Ashland is a cultural and recreational mecca in southern Oregon. Home to the acclaimed Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the largest classic repertory theater in the country,
Ashland boasts excellent and varied theatre throughout much of the year. The city of 19,000 was named in John Villani's book The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America, as one of the country's top 10 towns in which to buy art. The Britt Music Festival in nearby Jacksonville offers live music each summer. Crater Lake National Park is 2 hours away. Mount Ashland offers Winter activities like downhill and cross country skiing. The city's 19-acre Lithia Park, in the center of town, is home to one of the most varied collections of trees and shrubs of any park in Oregon (landscaped by John McLaren, who also designed San Francisco's Golden Gate State Park). Miles of hiking trails are accessible from downtown Ashland. In the summer, the park's bandshell hosts varied events including concerts and ballets. A hands-on Science museum, Scienceworks, is located less than 4 miles from the airport.
Vineyards also dot the countryside. Ashland is known for its tasteful commercial development, including a dearth of neon and billboards. Historic neighborhoods are home to numerous Tudors and Victorians, making walking the neighborhoods pleasant. Ashland has a strong identity as a tourist destination, and is located roughly halfway between San Francisco and Seattle. |

Thanks to an almost $800,000 Federal Aviation Administration grant, the Ashland Municipal Airport now has repaved runways and a new lighting system. | | Resurfacing of the runway at the Ashland airport as part of an $800,000 FAA-financed improvement project. |
The improvements to the runways, taxiways and lights follow the completion of 14 new T-Hangers by Adroit Construction and significant work to the airport master plan, which should be finalized this year. "We try to get a major improvement about every four years," said Jim Olson, City of Ashland project manager in charge of developments at the airport. "Each year we get an entitlement allotment of $150,000 for minor improvements." "Pavement work is mandatory," Olson said. "If you don't maintain the pavement, you lose it."
The current improvements to the runways and taxiways involve an extensive rebuild and overlays of the airport asp |
